Our last stop was the Whakarewarewa Thermal Village.  It was another geothermal area that had been settled by the Maoris (New Zealand`s original inhabitants).  It didn`t smell as much like sulfur here and when we looked at the cooking pool, a boiling pool that is still used by the Maoris to cook food, it became clear why the Maoris had settled here: the water was crystal clear, they always hot water for bathing, a warm bed to lay in, and no rotten egg smell.
