The water was about 1.4 meters deep and therefore too deep to cross it with the Landcruiser. Our guide explained that 0.8 - 0.9 meters of water can be safely crossed with a truck that has a snorkel, just like our Landcruiser. At 1 meter it starts getting tricky and he would strongly recommend against anything above 1 meter. The guide told us a story about a truck that had tried to cross the river at a water depth of 1.2 meters. The truck floated away and the tourists had to swim to land through crocodile-infested waters. His comment: "That`s just silly!"
